Since childhood Franck has been passionate about history and archaeology, with a natural aptitude for drawing and sculpture. Largely self-taught, he began working with metal in the mid-1990s. He developed his skills by making numerous objects, primarily replicas of Celtic militaria, initially for private individuals and later for museums.
In the early 2000’s he established his company Archéo’Art to create reconstructions for historic re-enactment including carnyces, based on models discovered at Tintignac, but these were not performance quality instruments. After meeting John Kenny in 2018 at the Samara Archaeological Park in the Somme Valley he studied the carnyx fragments from Mandeure at the Montbéliard Museum. On his advice he accepted the challenge of creating a performance quality carnyx in hand hammered sheet bronze, faithful to the archaeological data. Franck is now a member of the Carnyx & Co team, working on exciting new archaeological discoveries with specialists in the UK and France.
