National Museum of Scotland

Carnyx & Co would not exist had it not been for the ground-breaking National Museums of Scotland project to reconstruct the Deskford Carnyx, inspired and directed by Dr John Purser, with the advice of Dr Fraser Hunter, the principal curator of Iron Age and Roman collections at NMS. The support and encouragement from the National Museums of Scotland remains the bedrock upon which our work rests.

Samara

Samara Archaeopark, in the heart of the Somme valley, is dedicated to revelation of the lives of our prehistoric ancestors; the reconstruction of daily life, shelter and housing, the evolution from hunter-gatherer to permanent settlement. In particular, Samara offers the chance to consider human interaction and responses to the natural environment both for survival and through artistic-ritualistic intervention. Samara is a living showcase of the wealth of the archaeological heritage of our pre-Roman ancestors.

New College of the Anthropocene

The New School of the Anthropocene is an experiment in counter-nihilism. It is a response to the inability and unwillingness of the mainstream university to engage with the condition of social crisis and ecological ruin that characterises the 21st Century. This is our opportunity to chart the new. Our motto is: Art Critique Experiment

Ancient Music Ireland

Research that celebrates the fervent life?s work of co-founders Simon O?Dwyer and Maria Cullen O?Dwyer. Availability of surviving musical instruments from the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages and the Early Medieval period allowed for the accurate reproduction of each example. This allows for in-depth study into original context, manufacturing, and comparison with other contemporaries, musical content and possible uses in their time.

Sponsors since the establishment of Carnyx & Co

A very special note of thanks needs to be extended to Ken Robertson and Carol Taylor of United Distillers who continued to secure financial support for a variety of projects following the success of Nigel Osborne?s Forest~River~Ocean for carnyx with string quartet and live electronics at the 1996 Highland Festival. When United Distillers became part of Diageo, that support continued through the newly established Diageo Foundation, and a wide variety of private and public bodies.
